Area Information
Few places in Oregon combine scenic beauty, outdoor recreation, historical and cultural attractions more successfully than Southern Oregon. This makes the area a year-round delight for residents looking for places to go and things to see and do.

Ashland, home of the internationally acclaimed Oregon Shakespearean Festival, is filled with small-town charm. This quaint Victorian city embraces a colorful collection of art galleries, historic buildings, fine restaurants and shops. Ashland also has an outstanding collection of hotels, motels and the largest number of bed and breakfast inns in the Northwest. Southern Oregon University, with its striking campus, acts as a delightful balance to the almost European flair of the city. The University offers excellent art and historic museums. The famed Oregon Shakespearean Festival has been pleasing audiences for more than 60 years. Adjacent to the festival grounds is Lithia Park, a 100-acre recreational park with a scenic creek, duck ponds and band shell. It has been called one of the most beautiful parks in Oregon.

Medford is the business and professional center of Southern Oregon. Situated in the heart of the Rogue River Valley, Medford boasts beautiful pear orchards, excellent shopping and a striking view of snowcapped Mt. Mcloughlin. The climate and location make the city a natural headquarters for dozens of outdoor recreational activities. The seasons are clearly defined, though temperatures are mild and the yearly snowfall is slightly less than 4 inches on the valley floor. Medford is within easy driving distance of mountains, two major rivers and more than 30 lakes and streams, and provides easy access to the Southern Oregon coast, Crater Lake National Park and the Oregon Caves. Medford is intersected by Interstate 5 and is just minutes from six other highways.

Grants Pass, your gateway to the Rogue River, has achieved national recognition for its river industry. Guided fishing trips, day-long raft trips and extended white-water trips all originate in Grants Pass. River operators offer a variety of packages, each tailored to your spirit of adventure. For those who choose to explore the wild and scenic sections of the Rogue, bald eagles, blue heron, osprey and deer are common sights. Grants Pass has recognized its historical value by identifying the city's many sights for walking and driving tours. Year-round activities include gold panning, art exhibits, wildlife, backpacking, rock hounding and shopping.

Roseburg is located in the heart of the Hundred Valleys of the Umpqua, where year-round climate produces world-class wines and a friendly atmosphere. Conveniently located on Interstate 5, Roseburg is 67 miles south of Eugene, Oregon's second-largest city and 96 miles north of Medford, making it an ideal spot for sampling the outdoors of the Umpqua Valley and the Cascade Mountains. The Roseburg area is becoming an increasingly popular vacation destination. Centrally located to camping, fishing, the high Cascades and Crater Lake as well as the beautiful Oregon coast, the world-famous Wildlife Safari and activities ranging from white-water rafting to just plain relaxing.
